Evergreen to Walsenburg

Today we were in the second group which left Evergreen at 0830hrs. Our team leaders aren't as familiar with the route as Jo and Denny so we had a few u-turns to start with but eventually got going in the right direction.

The first part of the ride took us through Pines down to Woodland Park; this road was great and we had a free-for-all; think Rimutaka Hill and then flatten it then put some long power straights in there; it was a great blow out! I didn't see it but Jude saw a dead deer on the side of the road and these along with elk are often hit by traffic but that goodness this is generally at times when we are off the road.

Woodland Park is where we fueled up both body and bike; the bike at the servo and the body down the road at this huge Wal Mart, though I am guessing small by American standards.

From Woodland Park it was down the road a short distance to Manitou Springs, I am guessing (though I am sure someone will Gogle it) it popped up at around the gold digging era as one of the buildings  was built in 1878; man it was hot here, 90F I think. From here we went to the Valley of the Gods, just down the road, which saw the temp go to 100F! We didn't hang around here to long as it was quite uncomfortable.

From here it was down to Pueblo and the HD dealer to have a look and one of the bikes looked at. These people weren't as friendly as Mile High HD but they watered us and managed to sell some of our die in the park HD fans some t shirts. From here Jude and I took off early down I 25 South to our day's destination of Walsenburg. Getting onto the I 25 was much easier than anticipated and we were soon up to speed initially 65 mph then 75 mph. Jude and I were cruising along on cruise control at 80 mph when we were passed by a large semi truck, I sped up to 90 mph and was just keeping pace; he wasn't going to beat me so on a down hill stretch I started to pull away but when I looked down I was doing 110 mph!

We were soon at our turn off and pulled into the servo and as I got off the bike and started to fill 5-6 of our group pulled in, they were doing 100 mph most of the way!! Our hotel was next to the servo so we were soon into our room, showered and laying on the bed having a nana nap.

Tonight the group had some beers in the courtyard of the hotel, some then went into "town"for a meal while most of us went next door for Taco's and Chicken.

Tomorrow it is down to Acoma Pueblo
