Todays the day....or not!

Well that was a bit of a false start!

The day started wet but ok. The weather in Upper Hutt certainly gave us a false sense of security. Jim, Colin and Cody picked us up at 1230pm so that we could have lunch in town before heading out to the airport. We left Upper Hutt in reasonable calm but wet weather only to turn the corner at Petone into a good old gusting southerly. In the time it took us to drive to the Old Bailey we saw no planes land, which should have been a good warning, what was really the nail in the coffin (though we didn't recognise it at the time) was no further landings were seen going out to the airport via Evans Bay.

We arrived at the airport to gale force winds which resulted in a real effort to even get out of the car; sorry about the door Jim! The second warning should have been the very long queues, the TV cameras and the empty long haul queue; but hey why not give it a go! to my surprise the guy took our bags and told us he had checked us all the way through to San Francisco, we only needed to present ourselves to the International gate yeeeha!!

And then the announcement! Bugga!

Gina Gleeson kicked into action and got everyone (except Alan - ANZ mistake) rebooked for tomorrow to Auckland then onto San Francisco via LA; Jo and Dennis, our leaders, are also stuck in good old Wellington and working hard to get tickets for tomorrow. Two of the group from Hawkes Bay managed to just get out so will be in SF on their own :-(

Weather looks good for a Monday kick off.............
