338 ks today which doesn't sound like a lot and believe me it doesn't take long when travelling at 90mph!
We left Holbrook at 0830hrs straight onto the I 40 West heading for Winslow, Arizona. You will know the significance of this place Jim! What a place. I think the only two shops making a profit are the two shops on the corners where the big 66 sign is. We spent about an hour here before setting off for the meteor crator and the Grand Canyon.
Not much exciting happened after this, if you don't count 80-100mph down the I 40, until we reached the Grand Canyon but not until we had stopped at these Indian stalls selling nick nacks. If you don't see anything else in your life time you have to see the canyon. This natural wonder is a sight to behold. We were told all about it by others that had been here but it in no way prepares you. The cabins we stayed in were lovely and to step out side them to see the wild life just there is fantastic!
Judy and I were sitting in the bar waiting for the others when Denny came in and said you have to come and see this. Denny led us up to the grassed area where there were three wild Elk, one female, one male and their fawn. These animals are huge and the male had a full head of antlers which made us very weary but we were still able to get close enough for some once in a life time photos.
Early to bed as we wanted to get up to see the sun rise and were leaving early to beat the heat of the desert. We didn't get to see the sun rise due to cloud cover but did get to see some other critters such as the local Chipmunks.
Standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona...now that would be such a fine sight to see! I don't suppose a girl drove past in a flatbed Ford?
